Maher gave a great take on the issue of Food Recalls recently in his "Real Time" cable show as part of the "New Rules" segment. In case you didn't know, Maher is a strong animal rights supporter and vegetarian (I hear mixed reports as to his being vegan, although I tend to think he is). Anyway, the following is the pertinent part transcribed from the 11/02/07 broadcast. I've included a link to the YouTube video of the whole segment (profanity warning!) below:
"New Rule: You don't have to recall things that would make people sick anyway. General Mills has recalled 5 million "Jeno's Frozen Pizzas" because they might be contaminated with E.Coli. Couldn't they just as easily say they were "recalling 5 million strains of E.Coli because they might be contaminated with Jeno's Pizza?" I mean, what's the difference? One gives you stomach cramps and diarrea, and the other is E.Coli."
